Rules: Session Rules
RULE GUIDELINES
Rules and session format have be modified to reflect the change in venue from Cudell Recreation
Center to Tri-C Metro Campus. Modifications to the rules and session format will always be
considered in the best interest of the league's sustained growth, development and continued
success.
- Effective Sunday, August 09, 2008.
- Rules shall be set and established by the Board of Directors, with input from its members and
an emphasis on local and regional influences. NCAV strategy is to continue to implement
more standards associated with NAGVA and USAV guidelines, without comprising the
integrity and intent of this league.
- The following session rules are not intended to address every rule of play, but to provide
guidance to officials. Any disputes of rules should be first resolved by the officials governing
a match. If that can not be accomplished, protests need to be brought immediately to the
attention of the Executive Officers for clarification and/or arbitration.
- The following establishes the order, or succession, of rule interpretation: (1) North Coast
Athletics Volleyball, (2) NAGVA, (3) USAV. Where rules are not specifically addressed by
NCAV, precedent will be considered first, before implementing NAGVA or USAV rule
guidelines.
- If a facility does not provide the minimum space for service behind the end-line, then
officials are responsible to review the measured space allowable as a "step in" line for
serving. (e.g., Cudell Recreation Center - 4 ft., Tri-C Metro - not applicable).
- Officials are required to review the facility space and determine if there are obstacles,
which invoke an automatic replay. All parts of the obstacle should be considered and
discussed by both captains and the official managing the court.
- Serve/receive/court shall be determined by a coin toss.
- Teams are capped at ten (10) individual players.
- Teams may start, continue and finish a game with at least 2 players. However, when a team
is shorthanded and team member's arrive they shall be inserted into the lineup immediately
at the right back position (serving slot).
- Cross over players are defined as individuals that are playing in more than one division.
Players rated C are eligible to play in the C and BB/B divisions. Players rated BB/B are
eligible to play in all divisions. Players rated A are eligible to play in the A and BB/B
divisions. Player skills and performance dictates player rating, not the division in which the
player plays.
- During the games, rotational substitution is not permitted.
- A no pursuit rule is strongly enforced.
- DURING THE MATCH and while on the court, the team captain is the game captain. When the
team captain is not on the court, the coach or the team captain must assign another player
on the court, but not the Libero, to assume the role of game captain. This game captain
maintains his/her responsibilities until he/she is substituted, or the team captain returns to
play, or the set ends.
- The C Division must have Three (3) players rated C on each team. Players rated A are not
eligible to play in the C Division.
- The BB/B Division may not have more than Two (2) Players rated C.
- The A Division may not have any players rated C.
- Officiating work teams are strongly suggested for the C Division. Please contact the
Commissioner or Vice-Commissioner to volunteer to officiate this division.
